Heather MacInnis 1986 – 2013

On Wednesday April 10, my client and dear friend Heather MacInnis succumbed to her lifelong battle with Cystic Fibrosis. She was the recipient of two double lung transplants in her fight to overcome the fatal genetic disease that causes a thick build-up of mucus, making the lungs more prone to infection and inflammation.

Heather was an inspiration. She braved the odds everyday with a beautiful smile and a positive attitude. She loved getting dolled up and looking good for her fiancee, Sean Campbell who recently told me that she also did it to say “Fuck you, Cystic Fibrosis!”

Heather was loved by so many people. I recently came to know her as a client, being her Toronto hairstylist on a referral from my friend and Toronto tattoo artist, Lizzie Renaud. Lizzie tattooed Heathers arm with beautiful angels which no doubt gave Heather constant inspiration, and also added that “sass” that was undeniably Heather.

I absolutely loved helping Heather feel her best by being her personal hairstylist. We shared many laughs and stories about life and love, and she offered up some of the best advice a girl could get about being happy with who you are and recognizing beauty while enjoying everyday life. She gave me a pair of diamond earrings for Christmas that are my favourite, and I almost never have taken them off since!

We can all learn a lot from Heather MacInnis. Be grateful for what you have. Love those around you. Feel beautiful everyday. Be sassy. Never stop smiling. And most importantly,

“Just Breathe”…
